Press Release>> Return to all press releases TEMPE, AZ - August 1, 2002SpectraSoft to Add Medical Necessity Codes to AppointmentsPRO™New software enhancement will enable users to conduct compliance checks and increase accuracy of patient appointment scheduling SpectraSoft Inc., a Tempe-based developer of software solutions for the healthcare industry, today announced a licensing agreement with HyperCereus Medical Inc. of Tucson. HyperCereus is a high-level medical informatics consulting firm specializing in custom application development and data management solutions for healthcare providers. Under the Agreement, HyperCereus' Medical Necessity Codes will be loaded into SpectraSoft's flagship appointment scheduling and resource management solution AppointmentsPRO™. The integration and maintenance of HyperCereus data sets will enable users of AppointmentsPRO™ to apply medical necessity codes to appointment records, and conduct compliance checks before scheduling. "We are pleased that SpectraSoft has chosen our medical necessity data solutions to enhance their exceptional appointment scheduling product," said Fabio Almeida M.D., President of HyperCereus Medical Inc. "The lack of access to medical necessity data at the point of care results in errors that cost U.S. physicians and hospitals billions of dollars each year. Providing our medical necessity data solutions as part of the scheduling process will allow the greatest possible opportunity to eliminate expensive errors and omissions," he said. Medical Necessity is the criterion used by Medicare, and most major insurance companies, to determine whether a provider's services will be reimbursed. The term refers to a set of diagnosis codes compiled by each Medicare Fiscal Intermediary and Carrier, and published as Local Medical Review Policies (LMPRs). They define the tests and procedures that are considered "reasonable and necessary." Healthcare providers adhere to these codes because only those tests and procedures considered "reasonable and necessary" are reimbursed. SpectraSoft President and CEO Steven L. Petrie called the agreement "the best possible choice" for a content enhancement. "Our customers will reap the benefits at their bottom line," he said. AppointmentsPRO is expected to be available with HyperCereus' Data Content by 2003. About SpectraSoftSpectraSoft Inc. is a privately owned software development company headquartered in Tempe AZ. SpectraSoft's Windows-based, appointment scheduling and resource management products, Appointware™, AppointmentsPRO™, and AppointmentsES™ have been designed specifically for the healthcare industry. They are installed in more than 3,000 facilities nationwide. For more information contactKaren Richardson >> Return to all press releases
